Services
Postpartum Place Chatham offers doula services from Shauna, who is a brilliant, talented doula who is a mother herself and knows the joy of raising children. She is dedicated to advocating and caring for new moms, babies, and their families. She strives to support families in all stages of their journey to becoming parents, from conception through postpartum healing and the early months of parenthood.
The center offers Mindful Parenting groups that provide connection, kinship, and love to families. These support groups and parent coaching services help families feel seen, heard, and empowered. These groups are a great way to learn about yourself and grow as a parent in a non-judgmental environment.
The Mother’s Club support group is designed for mothers of infants 0-6 months old. This group has supported new moms for over 30 years, and many clients have made lifelong friends in this group. This fun, interactive group is a great place to find expert advice, support, and friendship in a nurturing, safe environment. This group meets weekly.
Specialty
Postpartum Place Chatham offers craniosacral fascial therapy, infant-driven movement, and rhythmic movement training through Bodywork 4 Babies. This is recommended for infants with oral ties. The goal of this therapy is to help babies thrive. Craniosacral fascial therapy uses therapeutic touch and focuses on the connective tissue to help release strain and tension patterns. Infant-driven movement helps the therapist stretch through fascial strain patterns and gently apply force to adjust the infant. Rhythmic movement training uses developmental movements, gentle isometric pressure, and self-awareness to help ensure optimal growth and development. This training is based on the work of Kerstin Linde, a movement training specialist from Sweden.
Clients also enjoy lactation consultations in person or virtually. Maria Parlapiano, an IBCLC and RN, aims to help new mothers and provide adequate support. Lactation support can help mothers achieve the best latch possible and learn how to tell if their baby is getting enough milk. It additionally helps moms to recognize feeding cues and relax so that breastfeeding feels positive and empowering. New mothers can feel safe and nurtured in Postpartum Place’s warm, relaxed environment. Lactation consultants help diagnose any breastfeeding issues and concerns, including pain, milk supply issues, or problems with a newborn’s latch.
Therapeutic breast massage services are gentle, effective ways to remove fluid from the breast if it cannot be hand-expressed or pumped out. This massage helps the body clear and reabsorb fluid, which can reduce swelling in the breast. This massage increases circulation, rids the body of toxins, provides pain relief, and improves breast drainage. It can help with engorgement, plugged ducts, mastitis, and poor milk expression.
